Advancing the Status of
Women Worldwide
for More Than 80 Years
From the urban skyline of the “motor city,” Detroit, MI, to the
woods and lakes of rural Ontario and Michigan, District 15
welcomes you!
The bridge has been adopted as an unofficial symbol of District 15, as
several major bridges connect our two countries. Bridges also
stand as symbols for unity, which reflects Zonta's mission.
The bridge symbol above is an original design created for the
International Convention in Detroit, 1994, by Sandra Vosper, of
the Zonta Club of Sault Ste. Marie Area, Ontario, Canada. There
are 44 clubs in our District, with approximately 1200 members.
Points of pride for District 15 Zontians include these:
Our clubs have also sought out successful candidates who are natives of
several other countries, from among the thousands of foreign students
pursuing degrees at our universities.
Support for
Zonta International's
service projects in other parts of the world. A portion of funds
raised in our District is helping to make a real difference in the lives
of women in countries such as Afghanistan, Bolivia, Bosnia-Herzegovina,
Chad, Niger, and Sri Lanka.
Commitment
to developing leaders for the future, through the
Z Clubs and Golden Z Clubs sponsored by Zonta Clubs in District
15.
Local
service projects, which are selected and carried out by the clubs.
District 15 Zontians provide breast cancer screening; college
scholarships; financial support to shelters for abused women and
children; clothing for needy women who are re-entering the work force;
and perform many other services for their communities.
